VAT out by 1p
« on: January 04, 2018, 01:42:08 PM »
Can anyone help. I have come to realise that the vat may be calculated wrong on version 8.

For example i have a gross amount of 73.66.

The Easy Invoicing 8 system tells me the net is 61.39 and vat is 12.27.

It should or according to my calculator it should be 61.38 net and 12.28 vat.
The calculator says 61.383 meaning it should round down to 61.38 but it rounds up to 61.39.

I copy these gross figures to excel which does a formula to calculate the net and vat and i have in some cases differing results. And this means my figures do not match.

I just wondered if anyone else had this issue, or am i missing something or getting it wrong.

Floating point decimal rounding in Access is different to that in Excel.

This is a very common issue and HMRC are aware that some software packages will round differently to others.

It's possible to alter the way Easy Invoicing rounds a product price by altering the figures after the second decimal point but in my experience HMRC aren't too worried about the rounding issue as long as the rounding method is consistent as the amounts are not likely to be huge.
